Serie A giants Napoli are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old, 14-cap French international Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea next year.
According to a report by Italian outlet Napoli Calcio Live, Christopher Nkunku is the subject of interest from Napoli. Antonio Conte is planning another raid on Chelsea for the 14-cap French international. The high-flying Serie A giants are weighing up an initial loan deal to land the frustrated forward next year.
Christopher Nkunku and his Chelsea woes
Christopher Nkunku has endured a frustrating spell since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in a big-money move in July 2023. A native of Lagny-sur-Marne, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Paris Saint-Germain. However, his stock skyrocketed during his spell with RB Leipzig.
The 27-year-old arrived in London 18 months ago amid hype and fanfare surrounding him. However, fitness issues blighted Nkunku in his debut season, and the after-effects of those problems have cost him a spot in the starting lineups in the Premier League. Nevertheless, the player has excelled this term, amassing 12 goals and four assists in only 1,008 minutes of game time.
However, Nkunku’s patience is wearing thin, and recent reports have claimed that he might push for an exit. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. An adventure in Serie A might be on the cards, with Napoli vying for his signature.
Serie A adventure beckons?
Napoli’s interest in Christopher Nkunku is understandable. While Romelu Lukaku has been a top-class addition to the first-team squad, Antonio Conte wants more firepower in the final third heaidng into the second half of the 2024/25 season. So, Nkunku has emerged as a viable target for Napoli.
The Serie A giants are plotting an initial loan deal to sign Nkunku from Chelsea, although it is unclear if the West London club will be open to the proposition. Meanwhile, other European bigwigs, including Paris Saint-Germain, are also keen on signing the 27-year-old Frenchman.
With the race to secure Nkunku’s services heating up, it will not be surprising to see him leave Chelsea for another big club. It will be interesting to see where the 14-cap French international lands if he leaves Chelsea in the January transfer window.
