Concern for Barcelona: Bayern Munich join hunt for key transfer target

The transfer team at La Liga giants Barcelona have on Monday been put on red alert.

This comes amid confirmation that the Blaugrana have been joined in their pursuit of a long-time transfer target by German heavyweights Bayern Munich.

The player in question? Nico Williams.

Wide-man Nico was of course tipped to take his talents to Catalunya’s capital throughout this past summer’s transfer window.

Amid their search for reinforcements in the attacking third, the Athletic Club standout was identified as something of a priority addition on the part of Deco and co.

After Athletic refused to budge in their stance that the entirety of Nico’s release clause be paid, Barcelona were ultimately forced to pivot towards eventual signing Dani Olmo.

The interest on the part of the Catalans in Nico, though, remains strong with a view to next season.

Safe to say, then, that another of the continent’s top clubs positioning themselves in the fray for the Euro 2024 winner will no doubt mark a source of concern.

As per a report from German transfer insider Florian Plettenberg:

‘The 22 y/o Spaniard from Athletic Bilbao is expected to be available for €50-60m in the summer, putting him on Bayern’s radar.’

It now remains to be seen if Barca can compete with the financial might of their counterparts at the Allianz Arena.
