Tottenham and Newcastle have reportedly identified the goalkeeper and a transfer target.
Burnley manager Scott Parker has revealed his transfer stance on goalkeeper James Trafford who is reportedly a transfer target of Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Spurs lost starting keeper Guglielmo Vicario due to a foot injury. It is set to keep him out for at least two months. Ange Postecoglou said: “He'll make sure he's back as quickly as possible. He's still around the group and invested in what we're doing. He's progressing well.”
Fraser Forster has been standing in for Vicario, however, he made a crucial mistake which led to two Manchester United goals in Spurs’ 4-3 Carabao Cup win last week. According to the Mirror, Tottenham have identified Trafford as a potential January signing, who could step in until Vicario returns. He would then hold the second-choice goalkeeper role in Postecoglou’s squad.
The 22-year-old has had a fantastic start to the season under Scott Parker, conceding just nine goals in 21 games and keeping 12 clean sheets for the Clarets. After Burnley’s 2-1 win over Watford at the weekend, Parker emphasised that he thinks Trafford would benefit from staying at Turf Moor.
He told the Burnley Express: “Yeah, for sure. I’ve said it before, Traffs had a tough time last year but this is the best place for him to be. You’re seeing every bit of a young keeper in development who needs games and needs experience. He’s having a very, very good season and he’s learning as he goes along, which is a huge positive for him.”
How much could Spurs pay for Trafford?
The Burnley shot-stopper remains one of the more exciting young goalkeepers in the English game, and so could provide a hefty price tag, especially considering Parker’s stance on him. The report by the Mirror states that Tottenham are lining up a £20m bid for Trafford in the hope that it will be enough to tempt Burnley to sell. It also states that Newcastle failed to secure Trafford with a similar bid in the summer transfer window, meaning Spurs may have to up their offer.
Trafford is Tottenham’s first choice for a Vicario replacement, however, they have also identified Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson, and Sheffield Wednesday man Pierce Charles as alternative targets.

Spurs looking to replace Fraser Forster
Forster has come under a lot of fire in the past week following his dismal performance against United in the Carabao Cup. The 36-year-old has conceded 12 goals in five Premier League games so far this season, which averages at 2.4 goals per game.
Meanwhile, whilst Vicario was fit, he conceded 13 goals in 12 Premier League matches averaging at 1.08 per game. The statistics suggest that Postecoglou could want to prioritise strengthening at the back in the January transfer window.
