Unai Emery aiming to fix Aston Villa problem at Newcastle

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester City was Villa’s third on the spin at home in the Premier League but it is a different story on the road, where they have lost four straight.

Emery knows that form must improve if they are to maintain a challenge near the top of the table.

He said: “We are trying to focus on each match, being consistent.

“After the win we had on Saturday against Manchester City we are of course feeling better at home but away is completely different, we are losing the last matches we played in the Premier League.

“It is our challenge. Our great challenge is Newcastle and away.”

The Magpies have won their last three matches in all competitions, scoring 11 goals in the process.

Emery continued: “They beat us twice last year and I respect them a lot. It is going to be very difficult, in Newcastle with the supporters the atmosphere makes it a very strong stadium for them and difficult for the opponent.

“They are being successful at home, more than less. They performed very well against Liverpool and Arsenal. They are winning a lot of matches. It’s a big motivation to play there.”

Diego Carlos should be back available for Villa after missing Saturday’s win with a small injury.
