'Interesting': Pundit reacts after Tim Howard tells him who he thinks should replace Dyche at…

Encouraging signs have been shown on Merseyside over the last couple of weeks with improvements on and off the pitch at Everton.

Sean Dyche’s side have started to put together some encouraging performances which have returned some impressive results.

And then there is, of course, The Friedkin Group’s takeover which is offering the Toffees with a fresh start.

Dyche insists the Friedkins are backing him, but there will remain questions over his long-term future at the club.

The 53-year-old will be out of contract in the summer and the new owners may well have their own thoughts on who should be leading Everton forward.

The Friedkins encouraged to hire Graham Potter for Everton

Everton have already been tipped to appoint Jose Mourinho as Dyche’s potential long-term replacement at Goodison Park.

But speaking on NBC Sports, Robbie Earle has admitted former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard feels Graham Potter is the perfect man for the job.

“It’s interesting. I think Tim [Howard] mentioned when we were chatting. He said that it feels like Everton could be a great project for someone like Graham Potter,” said Earle.

“He will play better football, you know, he’s not in the spotlight as he was at Chelsea, but it’s a big club. He can compete at the right end of the table.”

Former Everton striker Neal Maupay has recently praised Potter amid the links to the job on Merseyside following their time together at Brighton & Hove Albion.

And it is believed Potter is someone The Friedkin Group admire as they look towards the Toffees’ long-term future.

Graham Potter ‘ready’ to return to management

The former Chelsea manager has now been out of work since 2023 when he was sacked from his role at Stamford Bridge.

However, the 49-year-old has told Sky Sports that he is now ready to get back into the dugout with a new challenge.

“I’ve had a great break. The journey from where I started to where I finished doesn’t come for free. Moving three countries, with a young family and all that comes with being a football manager,” he said.

“It was important for me to take a break, reflect and re-energise. It was a good time to look at other things, other sports, other teams and visit places. I feel really ready, really excited to be back when the right opportunity comes.”

The Friedkin Group have backed Kevin Thelwell which may suggest the new owners are looking to keep things stable for the time being.

With the January window now just days away, things look much more encouraging for Everton, but questions remain over their long-term plans.
