‘Excellent’ - Alan Shearer raves about £12m Newcastle star, names the player in his Team of the …

Newcastle United sealed an emphatic 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town in Saturday’s Premier League meeting at Portman Road.

The Magpies made an explosive start to the away game, scoring the opening goal through Alexander Isak after just 26 seconds.

Jacob Murphy extended Newcastle’s advantage by firing in off the underside of the crossbar before Isak struck another in first-half injury time.

The Sweden international completed his hat-trick after a brilliant flicked pass from Murphy in the 54th minute, as the Tyneside club went on to secure a comfortable win.

Alan Shearer was left hugely impressed with the English footballer, praising him for registering a goal and an assist against Ipswich.

Shearer included Murphy in his Team of the Week, saying: “Another goal and an assist in an excellent afternoon for Newcastle.”

Scintillating display

Murphy was at the top of his game in Saturday’s victory against the Tractor Boys.

The 29-year-old played a key role in the opening goal before getting in on the act himself by firing home a brilliant effort.

He then produced an incredible backheel pass that allowed Isak to complete his hat-trick.

The winger had 36 touches in the game and completed 18 of his 21 passes.

He won 100% of his ground duels and created three big chances, though he lost the ball on seven occasions.

Murphy, who joined the club for £12 million in 2017, has been a key member of Eddie Howe’s team this season. He has featured in 13 Premier League matches, with three goals and five assists to his name.

Murphy will look to make a similar impact for his team when they welcome Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Thursday.
