Nottingham Forest have entered the race to sign Leeds United transfer target Dario Essugo, Ontheminute reports.
According to the news outlet’s website [23 December], Wolves and Forest are prepared to steal the march on the Whites to secure the 19-year-old’s services and view Essugo as the perfect long-term asset.
Leeds are readying a loan offer with a purchase option to bring the Sporting CP man to Elland Road next month but now face more Premier League competition for his signature after Chelsea announced their intentions to sign the midfielder.

Daniel Farke should consider ending his interest in Essugo as the Premier League interest intensifies ahead of the January transfer window.
Indeed, the Portuguese Under-21 international would be a sensational coup for Leeds, but his reported £6 million asking price [Alan Nixon] will undoubtedly skyrocket with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves prepared to fight it out.

Furthermore, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have formed arguably the best central midfield partnership in the Championship this term, and with Ethan Ampadu returning to the first team fold, the Whites are well-stocked in this position.
Leeds have a significant disadvantage, with a permanent transfer at the end of the mooted loan bid dependent on securing Premier League promotion.

And while the Whites are well on track to secure automatic promotion or go one step further and thwart Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United to the league title – given the quality of players required to improve the squad at Elland Road, this will be a reoccurring condition throughout January.
Essugo has impressed on loan at La Liga outfit Las Palmas – but still, entering a prolonged transfer battle for his signature with other more problematic areas of the pitch that need addressing, Farke should admit defeat and move on to alternative targets.
