"Oh my god"... Conor Gallagher lauds 'unbelievable' ex-Chelsea striker, says better than Hasselbaink

Conor Gallagher is absolutely shining away from Chelsea, with the English midfielder sitting top of La Liga with Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher departed Chelsea in the summer, leaving his boyhood club for around £33m. The move must have been a daunting one for the Blues academy star, having spent his whole career around Cobham.

But Gallagher has simply thrived in Spain. The 24-year-old has become a staple player in Diego Simeone’s side and is adored by the fans. Gallagher even won Atletico’s Player of the Month for October.

He’ll be glad he made the switch, and Gallagher is now tipped for big things in Madrid, if he hasn’t been achieving them already.

Who knows, maybe he’ll reach the heights of an Atletico and Chelsea legend who the midfielder is certainly a big fan of.

Conor Gallagher would take Diego Costa over Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Diego Costa was a quite ludicrous striker for Chelsea and Atletico. The boisterous centre-forward was a bully on the pitch and a nightmare for defenders.

That is why he certainly has his supporters, including Gallagher, who had high praise for the former Brazilian-turned-Spaniard and even picked him over former Blues sharp-shooter Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Gallagher was tasked by ESPN to play a game of ‘You have to answer’, where the premise is to pick one player over another.

He was tasked with picking Diego or Jimmy, to which he responded, “Oh my god, what are these?”

“Me and Jimmy are friends but I didn’t really watch him growing up,” Gallagher continued. “So I’ve got to go with Diego because he was unbelievable for Chelsea and Atletico.”

Gallagher also made to choose between Frank Lampard and John Terry

If you thought the first choice was tough, try picking between two icons around Stamford Bridge – Frank Lampard and John Terry. There was one clear winner for Gallagher, however, his ‘idol’ – Lampard.

Gallagher said: “Frank Lampard. He was my idol growing up. But they were both were, to be honest.”

Conor never will go on to have the Chelsea career that his idols achieved, but that doesn’t mean he can’t make his stamp in world football.

Under Simeone, Gallagher looks on another level, and if he can end the 24/25 campaign with a La Liga medal around his neck, he’ll be well on his way to legendary status at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
