'Most important thing': Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer both agree TFG must do one thing at…

A new chapter at Everton was opened last week when the takeover was announced and they were treated to a valuable point on Sunday.

It has not been the first half of the season which any Everton fans will have been hoping for with the threat of relegation hanging around once again.

However, there have been more promising signs of late with Sean Dyche’s side being able to take five points from their last three games.

The Toffees may well still be sitting at the wrong end of the table but encouraging signs are there with The Friedkin Group already bringing positive change to Everton.

But the new owners on Merseyside are already being warned by Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker they could make one fatal mistake.

The Friedkins warned against sacking Sean Dyche at Everton

After his meeting with the ownership on Friday, Dyche has been told he has the Friedkins’ support following the takeover.

The recent results have justified that decision as Everton have been able to take points from two of the top sides in the Premier League.

And speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have both backed Dyche to be the right man for the job.

“So, I mean, he’s going to keep them up. Sean Dyche is very organised and disciplined in the way he plays, and then they’re hard to score against,” said Lineker.

“I’ve always felt that because of Sean Dyche and because of his experience and all those things, they’ll have too much for the teams in and around them,” added Shearer.

“And the most important thing for them, absolutely, this season is staying up because of their new stadium next season. So I believe they’ll do that, and new owners, so they’ll be alright because of because of Sean Dyche.”

It seems not everyone is convinced by this as Tim Howard would like to see Everton hire Graham Potter instead of Dyche.

The 53-year-old is out on contract in the summer, which could well make The Friedkin Group’s decision a little easier.

The Friedkin Group should learn from West Ham’s mistake

Some Everton fans have criticised Dyche for some of the decisions he has made this season, but he has managed to keep the Toffees up over the last two terms.

Over the summer, West Ham’s owners gave in to their fans’ demands and replaced David Moyes with Julien Lopetegui.

This is a move which has not paid off for the Hammers, with West Ham only sitting one spot ahead of Everton currently.

Everton may have new owners on board and The Friedkin Group could act in the January transfer window, but the expectations must be realistic.

It has to be questioned whether the risk of hiring a new manager is potentially worth the result of possibly finishing a couple of places higher in the league.

And currently, Dyche is showing – with a fit squad – he could be capable of better things at Goodison.
