Ahmed Elmohamady has questioned why Troy Deeney overlooked Aston Villa players when naming his BBC team of the week.

Unai Emery was also omitted as the manager of Deeney's team as the ex-Birmingham City striker decided on Andoni Iraola instead after Bournemouth's impressive 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Cherries goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga also made the side, with a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ola Aina, James Tarkowski and Dean Huijsen. In midfield, Deeney selected Dominik Szoboszlai, Matheus Cunha and Thomas Partey.

Luis Diaz, Alexander Isak and Mo Salah were all named in attack, leaving no space for the likes of Morgan Rogers or Jhon Duran. Liverpool scored six at Tottenham, while Isak bagged a hat-trick for Newcastle at Ipswich.

Reacting to Deeney's team, Elmohamady wrote on X: "Not a single Villa player. Surprised that he didn’t pick himself."

Villa leapfrogged champions Man City by beating them 2-1 on Saturday as they inflicted Pep Guardiola with his sixth defeat of the league campaign. Youri Tielemans played a delightful through ball to set Rogers away in the 16th minute, before the England international played the ball to Duran to finish past Stefan Ortega.

Rogers then doubled Villa's lead just after the hour mark, before Phil Foden halved City's deficit in the third of four additional minutes.
