Romano Makes“New Striker”Claim As He Rates Chances Of Chelsea Delving Into The Transfer Market Next Month

Chelsea were very keen on recruiting a forward during the summer transfer window based on their pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

It is believed that the Blues’ attempts to sign the Nigerian international collapsed due to a failure to agree personal terms, with the club reluctant to break their wage structure.

Supporters would, therefore, be justified in assuming that a new No.9 would be on the agenda ahead of January.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano seems to be suggesting that isn’t the case.

Chelsea “not desperate” to reinforce the frontline

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that Enzo Maresca’s side have performed so well in the first half of the season that the club’s recruitment team have decided that there isn’t an urgent need to add numbers upfront:

“Chelsea are not desperate to bring in a new striker in January. Chelsea are very happy with what they see, and the balance in the dressing room, also in terms of relationships. The performances on the pitch have been excellent so far.”

The fact that Nicolas Jackson has been prolific in front of goal, having scored 9 goals in 16 league appearances, is likely to have played a role in that decision. You can read more about how the Senegalese international has improved since last season by reading our article here.

Nkunku’s future could determine the need for another striker

Reports emerged last month that Christopher Nkunku is not happy about his lack of game time. We spoke to Gus Poyet in an exclusive interview about the Frenchman’s future not that long ago.

Maresca has said over the past week that there are players in the squad contemplating their futures, and you would assume that Nkunku is one of them.

If the 27-year-old does leave, there would be space for a new addition up front but, for now, it seems Chelsea are happy with what they have got.
