Extra replacement buses will operate between Monument and Heworth on Boxing Day
Extra replacement buses will run between Newcastle city centre and Heworth on Boxing Day as Newcastle United take on Aston Villa.
Nexus has advised supporters heading to the Premier League clash to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey due to the ongoing line closure on the Tyne and Wear Metro, which is set to remain in place until 2025. Buses will run between Monument and Heworth approximately every eight minutes ahead of the 3pm kick-off.
The Metro line is shut between the two stations as a precaution due to the ongoing closure of the A167 Gateshead Highway flyover. The Metro tunnels between Gateshead and Gateshead Stadium stations run directly beneath the 1960s structure.

Metro trains continue to run northbound from Monument to Newcastle Airport on the Green Line, and from Monument to St James via the North Tyneside coast on the yellow line. As things stand, Metro services remain in service from Heworth to South Shields on the yellow line and South Hylton on the green line.
However, operators confirmed on Monday that a complete shutdown south of the river was possible, as trains are unable to get back to the system's maintenance depot in Gosforth. Later on Monday night, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness confirmed that she would commit regional funds to get the Flyover demolished, saying that the situation cannot wait for negotiations from the Government.
Nexus has encouraged people travelling over the Christmas period to keep up to date by using the Nexus website and on the Metro's X page.
