Ex-England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Elliot Anderson is one player that [Newcastle United](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/newcastle-united-fc) should have 'fight for' to keep at the club.
In an [interview with sportscasting.com](https://www.sportscasting.com/uk/news/shaun-wright-phillips-interview/), the former Manchester City and Chelsea player spoke about a wide range of topics, where he named Cole Palmer as the Premier League's most exciting English player.
Wright-Phillips also named Brighton & Hove Albion's Kaoru Mitoma, Manchester City's Savinho and AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo as the three best wide players in the league. He then gave his opinion as to which young player to keep an eye on.
Anderson, who joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle in the summer, has played an important part in his side's fantastic start to the season. Profit and sustainability rules (PSR) played a role in his departure from St James' Park - a deal which saw Odysseas Vlachodimos come the other way.
The 22-year-old has played 17 times for the City Ground side this season, bagging five assists in the process. Wright-Phillips, who amassed over 300 Premier League appearances in his career, has labelled Anderson as a 'special player'.
"Elliot Anderson at Nottingham Forest is the one player that I’m really excited to watch over the coming years," he said. "I watched him, Gibbs-White was suspended, he played in the game, and he was unbelievable.
"I couldn’t believe Newcastle let him go. Of course, they most probably had to, but I mean, he is one player that you should try to keep your hands on and fight for. I think he's going to be such a special player.
"When I watched the game at the weekend, Anderson looks like he just enjoys going past people or trying to force the issue. I think in today's football, we’re missing players like him.
"A lot of teams have sequences and patterns of play, but he grabs the bull by the horns in many ways and says, ‘I don't want to pass through, I'm going to get past you.’ He is quite nice to watch. It's refreshing to see a player take the initiative like that."
