An ideal time in the heart of the festive season to get a snapshot of views from Newcastle United fans on how they think things are going.
So we sent out various questions to a small number of regular/irregular contributors to The Mag.
Asking these Newcastle United fans some of the important questions of the day.
As well as some with a seasonal twist.
Here we have Nat Seaton giving his answers:
What would be a perfect Newcastle United Christmas present to unwrap?
Three points on Boxing Day against a team who I take great pleasure in beating, or maybe I should be thinking more long term… a right winger in the January transfer window!
In 2024, what have been your three best Newcastle United moments?
All the way back in January, going to the SOL and beating the mackems.
Coming back from 3-1 down to beat West Ham 4-3 in March.
I know we didn’t win, but more recently, I loved the Liverpool game. Two reasons, we didn’t lose like we usually do (you’ve got to go back to 2015 since we have beaten them at home) and it showed that this team still ‘has it’ and there are good things to come, which we have started to see since.
In 2024 what have been your three worst Newcastle United moments?
Back in January, but I can still remember it well, losing to that Oscar Bobb goal at the Leazes End in the 91st minute at home to Man City, that was a hard defeat to take.
No European football! The end of 2023 was so special with the three home and three away games. We hadn’t had it for so long that it left me wanting more, especially travelling away.
Can’t deny that the situation of having to selling Minteh and Anderson with Kelly and Osula the only incomings, was a disappointment. In the last couple of years transfer windows have been a bit different to what we had been experiencing for so many years under Ashley, I got used to better things than what both 2024 windows brought us.
Yankuba Minteh Signing Brighton
Once we get Christmas out of the way, the Newcastle United hierarchy have promised an update early in the New Year, regarding what their plans are for delivering a significantly bigger/better stadium. What do you hope they say? (Not just whether staying at SJP or new site but also capacity, timescale, progress they might have made on the quiet regarding their plans, whatever)
I’m one of the fortunate ones to still have a season ticket but I know so many who cannot get tickets for games, even when applying for every match.
We simply have to get a new stadium and my choice would be as close to SJP as possible and with a significantly increased capacity and completed ASAP!
The 2025/26 season will be the tenth since Newcastle United last had a Premier League derby match. Have you any seasonal black and white goodwill for our Mackem friends finally making it back to the top tier, from what looks the most appalling quality second tier for many years. Or even just because the amusing FA Cup stroll on Wearside last season whetted your appetite for the return of the derbies?
I’m one of those who would love to have the mackems in the Premier League and the derby matches back in our football calendar.
So many great memories over the years home and away (come to think of it, some not so great ones too!) that add to the season.
Maybe it’s gloating to say that I think we would be almost unbeatable against them, but reality is, we are in such a different ‘league’ to them at this present time.
If you could guarantee five NUFC players to be fit for the rest of the season (including all those currently unavailable), who would you choose and in what order?
Isak
Tonali
Bruno
Gordon
Schar
Assuming you don’t think that position has been reached already… what would it take for you to think Newcastle United needed to consider replacing Eddie Howe?
I’m not at the point of even close to thinking that Eddie Howe should be replaced.
Compare our squad to those fighting for the title, I still think he is doing a great job with what he has. If we ever get to a point of 11 starters and nine subs that I think he should be doing better with, that would be the point to question if a change needed.
Win the FA Cup or League Cup sometime in the next five years AND finish between 8th and 10th in each of these five seasons, or win nothing AND finish between 2nd and 4th in every one of these five seasons?
Win either of the Cups.
To experience that feeling of actually winning something would hopefully better any joy of being in Europe from finishing between 2nd and 4th. Then once we’ve won a cup, who knows…
