One former Chelsea player has claimed that a current Everton man should have been sent off against Chelsea at the weekend for a ‘dangerous challenge’.
Chelsea could only manage a 0-0 draw against relegation battlers Everton and missed a chance to go top of the Premier League, albeit temporarily.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea already agree terms for player to sign in the summer!
Liverpool are now on top, and Enzo Maresca’s comments about Chelsea not being in the title race this season appear to be justified a bit more. Although, they are still in second place, so factually right now at least, they still are very much in the title talk.
The Everton game could have been much different though if goalkeeper Jordan Pickford would have been sent off for a scissor challenge on Malo Gusto.
And former Blue Craig Burley believes he should have been sent off for the challenge and then of course, Chelsea would have also been rewarded a penalty.
Pickford a very lucky man

Pickford with two nasty challenges
In words cited by Blue Footy, Pickford said:
“The challenge was very similar to one on Virgil Van Dijk in COVID era, when Pickford came out, and scissored Van Dijk, I think he ruptured his ACL, and was out for one season.
“He does do these things now and again. Obviously yesterday Gusto was a lot luckier than Van Dijk. But it’s a dangerous challenge. And I agree, I don’t know why VAR didn’t say to the ref you’ve missed this here, it could be a penalty, could be a red card. It’s dangerous and it’s reckless because it certainly was a penalty.”
He is absolutely spot on here as well, I have no idea how VAR looked at it and missed it. Chelsea would have been home and dry if the correct decision was made here. But what will be, will be….
