Newcastle star loved by Eddie Howe wants a ‘fresh challenge’ and could leave in January -…

Kieran Trippier came extremely close to leaving Newcastle United over the summer window.

It went down to the wire, but the 34-year-old right-back ended up staying put at St James’ Park when the summer window slammed shut.

Kieran Trippier wanted to leave Newcastle United and handed in multiple requests to leave over the summer.

AC Milan were linked with signing Trippier and there was also interest from Turkey, but clubs ran out of time to strike a deal. Throughout the transfer saga, Eddie Howe was ‘desperate’ to keep Trippier at the club.

But question marks over Kieran Trippier’s future remain. He is under contract until 2026 but Trippier could leave in January if a suitable offer arrives.

Kieran Trippier still wants to leave Newcastle United

Trippier was signed by Howe for £12m in January 2022 and he has become a key player for the Magpies over the past two years.

Tino Livramento has been superb this season and is quickly becoming Newcastle’s first-choice right-back, which could make it easier for Howe to let Trippier leave.

As reported by Chris Waugh in The Athletic, Trippier is still keen to leave Newcastle in January after being denied a summer move away.

Waugh writes that Trippier “desires a fresh challenge” in 2025 and is still eager to leave Newcastle despite being considered a “key voice” in the dressing room by Howe.

Trippier currently earns £120,000 per week at Newcastle, so removing his wages would also be very beneficial from a Profit and Sustainability Rules standpoint.

Where could Kieran Trippier go if he leaves Newcastle?

There is no denying that Trippier is in the twilight years of his career at 34 years old, which may put a few clubs off a January deal.

According to Pianeta Milan, AC Milan are interested in signing Trippier in January having shown an interest in him over the summer.

Trippier has also been linked to Saudi Arabia, with several Pro League sides potentially wanting to sign the Newcastle star.

Trippier had been linked to West Ham and Everton over the summer but Premier League interest has gone quiet ahead of January. Turkey is another possible destination after Trippier almost moved there in the final days of the summer window.
