Everton boss Sean Dyche can prove Chris Sutton wrong after his prediction for the clash with Manchester City.

The Blues face Pep Guardiola’s side on Thursday (26 December) at the Etihad Stadium on the back of a three-game unbeaten streak including draws against Arsenal and Chelsea.

The hosts enter the contest in abysmal form following a run of nine losses in their last 12 matches so Dyche will be confident that his side can come away with at least a point.

However, the former Celtic man believes that the Toffees will suffer defeat [BBC Sport, 23 December], saying: “Everton have kept clean sheets in five of their past six games but they got thumped the last time they came to Manchester – at the start of December, when they lost 4-0 to Manchester United.

“I think they will lose at Etihad Stadium too.”

Everton can beat Manchester City

At the start of the season, it might have been a crazy statement to say that the Blues could win at the Etihad.

However, given the contrasting form of both sides, it is a very realistic outcome that Dyche’s side could take all three points in Manchester.

The Toffees have kept the most clean sheets in Europe’s top-five league since 1 October with seven with five of those coming in their last six matches.

Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite have been key figures for the Blues so far this season and will have to stand out again if they are to win as City still have a lot of dangerous players.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have three league goals between them this season so far and the Goodison Park club needs one of them to step up if they are to seal a historic victory.

The Toffees are winless in 15 games against the Citizens since Guardiola’s debut season in English football but this is their best chance they will get to beat the defending champions.
