Alan Shearer has warned Liverpool that there's still 'plenty of play for' in the Premier League title race.
The Reds are top of the tree at Christmas by four points, having also played one game less than nearest challengers Chelsea. New manager Arne Slot has taken to life at Anfield like a duck to water after succeeding Jurgen Klopp, but he's been reminded that there's still more than half of what's been an unpredictable season to go.
There's already been a number of surprises so far, with Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth occupying fourth and fifth place while reigning champions Manchester City languish down in seventh. It's exactly why Shearer suggests that there could be plenty of twists and turns between now and May.
"Look, there's still plenty to play for," the Newcastle legend told Betfair. "But Liverpool look really impressive, I know they've conceded a few goals, two at Newcastle, two at home against Fulham and three on Sunday.

"But their performance against Spurs and their response was magnificent, particularly after Chelsea drawing and Arsenal winning and putting a little bit of pressure on them. They looked really at it and a strong outfit with players that are ready to come off the bench and help their team. They're going to take some beating, definitely.
"I think this season has been a really different season so far for so many reasons. Look at Bournemouth, Forest, Chelsea, even Liverpool with their new manager. There are so many different things that have gone on and the unpredictability that we've seen up to now has been incredible."

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has warned Slot and Co. that four-time champions City will recover from their astonishing mid-season slump, having lost six of their last eight league games. "It's almost halfway so the table reflects the teams and where they are. Liverpool are doing fantastic since the first day," Maresca, who maintains that his own team won't be champions, said.
"The squad already live that kind of moment, it's important. We are happy to be where we are in this moment. I think Manchester City in the end will be there. They are living something that probably never happened before. They have a new injury at the end of every game. It is a very bad situation."
Liverpool's focus is on their own form and the Reds can make it back-to-back wins when they host Leicester City on Boxing Day.
