When Chelsea signed Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan, fans got excited about this ‘highly rated Italian maestro.’ Two years on, Stamford Bridge still feels like a revolving door for Casadei, marked by a body far too often on the fringes, on loan spells, or more often the metaphorical bench of frustration.

Casadei, 21, has experienced more of the Europa Conference League at Reading, Leicester and on TV than the Premier League’s bright lights. Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the midfielder is looking to make his January transfer window escape attempt. Honesty might say he has no one to blame.
A Promising Start… Or Was It?
When Casadei arrived at Chelsea, he already had the reputation of being a midfield prodigy. He was promptly loaned out in true Chelsea fashion. First stop? Reading FC. Then, Leicester City. By now you’d have thought the guy had a giant clump of Championship club crests. However, his sporadic Premier League performances for Mauricio Pochettino—11 appearances, with only one start, last season, all coming off from the bench—weren’t exactly ‘future first teamer’ type things.
Always been a supporter of Casadei but it’s time to move abroad.

Send him to Italy so everyone can see has B2B ability, ball striking and box crashing.

Come fast forward to this season, and it’s more of the same. Casadei featured in the Europa Conference League under Enzo Maresca, but the Premier League remains off the table. Two matchday squad inclusions? He has more cameos than a career. It’s like being invited to a dinner party and you can only watch the whole thing from outside the window.
Why Serie A Could Be the Perfect Fit for Casadei
Romano’s report claims several Serie A clubs want to bring Casadei back home. Honestly, it’s like destiny—a return to Italy. Italian clubs know how to bring through midfield quality, but Italians know how to cook pasta better. Finally, Casadei could get the minutes and confidence he’s been starved of in England. Also, Serie A is full of famous Chelsea exes who have come back and given the thumbs up. Romelu Lukaku just asked you… okay, wait.
My Take: Why Casadei Deserves Better
I do feel for Casadei as a football fan. He’s young, and he’s got talent, but he’s trapped in a system where talented players are not only collectibles but nothing worth sleeping on. I would pack my bags quicker than you can say, ‘Mauricio Pochettino, if I were him.’
Chelsea has an embarrassment of riches in midfield, but you only need to monitor your first team before you begin to take players off the market. Casadei deserves to be given good football, and, frankly, moving to Serie A could be the best decision he ever makes. What if it was a club like Lazio or Atalanta, and they marveled at the way he’d pull strings in midfield, playing the kind of football that had drawn high accolades in the first place?
The Humor in This Saga
Let’s be real: With the obvious exception of the manner in which he has been presented to the fans, Chelsea’s transfer strategy is often one big reality TV show. Will they sign another midfielder they have no need for? Tune in next week!” While Casadei’s Stamford Bridge career has been less of the football fairy tale he dreamed of and more of a sitcom. Chelsea’s midfield has more drama than the average Netflix series with limited minutes, endless loans, and now a likely exit.
What Lies Ahead?
Chelsea would not have Casadei’s name on the squad list to face Everton at Goodison Park. His Stamford Bridge story seems to be coming to an end, but while it didn’t pan out as he wanted it to, it’s evident he has more to give. Perhaps a move to Serie A will give his career a kick. Who knows, maybe he’ll be the one pushing the button against Chelsea in the Champions League one day.
