Manchester City have provided a fitness update on three key players ahead of their upcoming clash against Everton. The two sides will face off in the Premier League, with the Cityzens hosting Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Boxing Day (December 26).
A number of players are on the sidelines for City, most notably Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, who is out for the season due to a cruciate ligament injury. He is the only player out through a long-term injury, though, with players like Oscar Bobb and Ruben Dias set to return to fitness in January.
However, there is some uncertainty surrounding players like Matheus Nunes, Ederson Moraes, and John Stones, all of whom are doubtful inclusions for the Everton game. Pep Guardiola provided an update on the trio in his press conference ahead of the match.
He revealed that Stones was unlikely to feature after he endured an injury in their 2-1 loss against Aston Villa on December 21 (via Manchester Evening News):
"I didn’t talk with the doctors but if he could not play the second half at Villa Park it is because he wasn’t ready. We’ll see."
On goalkeeper Ederson Moraes and midfielder Matheus Nunes, he admitted that he was uncertain about the availability, saying:
“We train this afternoon and will see how many players we have available. At the moment, I don’t know."
He also provided some insight into their training plans, adding:
“We train today and we train tomorrow night, and then we stay here and then play on Boxing Day. Tonight and tomorrow, they will be with their families. Tomorrow night they will be here. Hopefully they want to be here - it is our job.”
Manchester City have endured a torrid run of form under Pep Guardiola in recent times. Their recent 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa was their ninth loss in last 12 matches across all competitions. They now sit in seventh on the Premier League table.
Erling Haaland opens up about goalscoring woes amidst Manchester City's poor run of form
Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland opened up about his goalscoring wors amidst the Cityzens' abysmal form. Despite being known for his clinical goalscoring, the Norwegian striker has found the net just once in his last six games.
Speaking to TNT Sports after their 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, he admitted that he and Manchester City needed to improve (via FotMob):
"We are disappointed, it's not good enough. It's not good enough from me... We have to continue, we have to believe and we have to keep working hard.
"We have to continue. First I'm looking at myself, I haven't been doing things good enough, I haven't been scoring my chances. I have to do better, I haven't been good enough."
Despite this shocking run of form, Erling Haaland has racked up 13 Premier League goals in 17 games this season, thanks to some impressive early performances.
