Matty Cash could be axed for Aston Villa after an unconvincing performance against Manchester City.

The Villans secured yet another home win against Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday (21 December) thanks to goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers.

The away side weren’t without their chances and eventually got on the scoresheet through Phil Foden late on but there were some frailties on show.

Cash did contribute to this up against Jack Grealish who was able to cut inside on multiple occasions and cause problems throughout which could see him dropped against Newcastle United.

The Poland international has put in some positive performances in recent weeks, his showing against RB Leipzig was positive as he operated on the wing.

In a move back to a deeper position at Villa Park, some issues did arise which could let his side down for the trip to St James’ on Boxing Day.

This lack of defensive output continued as the versatile full-back won just two duels while losing seven as the former Nottingham Forest man gave away three fouls.

This could be forgiven if his attacking influence was felt but with a zero per cent shot accuracy and just one pass into the final third, Cash didn’t have much impact in either direction.

With that being said, a trip to face Newcastle and Anthony Gordon, there is every chance that it could be a very difficult Christmas clash for the Pole.

As a result, Emery could opt to drop the right back from the starting XI and potentially shift Ezri Konsa back to right back once again.
