Is this how the Manchester City side could look after the January transfer window?
The campaign started with a flurry as City aimed to secure a fourth consecutive Premier League - but heading into Boxing Day’s home clash with Everton and a visit to Leicester City ahead of the turn of the year, City sit in seventh place in the table and 12 points adrift of current league leaders Liverpool.
Once the trip to the King Power Stadium is completed, City can then focus their attentions on the January transfer window and several players have already been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in the first month of the new year.
But how could City’s starting XI look when the January transfer window comes to an end?
GK: Ederson
There has been a lot of speculation about Ederson’s future at City as the Brazil international enters into the final 18 months of his current deal at the Etihad Stadium. However, it seems highly unlikely the long-serving stopper will depart during the January transfer window.
RB: Jeremie Frimpong
A lot has happened in Frimpong’s career since he left City’s academy system to join Celtic in a cut-price deal during the summer of 2019. Since then the Bayer Leverkusen star has won the Bundesliga and German Cup and has earned ten senior caps for the Netherlands. The attacking wing-back has been linked with a return to City in recent weeks - but there will be major competition for his signature.
LB: Josko Gvardiol
Much like some of his team-mates, the Croatian international may well have come in for some criticism in recent weeks - but there is no doubt Gvardiol remains a key part of Pep’s side.
CB: Ruben Dias
Dias has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League since he joined City during the summer of 2020. Despite the side’s recent struggles, the Portugal star is still viewed as integral to Pep Guardiola’s plans.
CB: John Stones
The England defender will enter the final 18 months of his current City deal in the new year and is facing a decision over his future. However, for now, he remains a big part of the City side.
CM: Martin Zubimendi
The Spain midfielder came close to moving to the Premier League during the summer before opting against a move to join Liverpool. Zubimendi impressed during Spain’s successful Euro 2024 campaign and has continued to shine with Real Sociedad this season. However, reports have suggested the midfielder is under consideration by the City hierarchy.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes
City have been linked with the Newcastle United midfielder in recent weeks and there were reports suggesting Pep Guardiola had instructed the club to make a move for the Brazil star. Guimaraes would not come cheaply and there have been reports stating Newcastle would only entertain offers around or over the £100m mark.
AMC: Kevin De Bruyne
As it stands, De Bruyne will leave City at the end of the season when his current contract comes to a close. The Belgium international has been linked with clubs in the MLS and Saudi Pro League but it seems unlikely he will depart in January.

RW: Savinho
Savinho has shown flashes of the ability he showed in scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists during his time with La Liga club Girona last season. The 11-times capped Brazil international is yet to find the net for City but has provided five assists in 22 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
LW: Jeremy Doku
The Belgium international is in direct competition with Jack Grealish for a place on the left-hand side of the City front three and will hope to take the upper-hand on the former Aston Villa man during the second half of the season.
For all of City’s struggles over the last two months, Haaland has still scored 18 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions and remains one of world football’s most feared strikers.
