“Enough’s enough”- Darrent Bent touches upon Postecoglou trait that costs Tottenham dear

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 6-3 by Liverpool on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur were given a reality check by Liverpool on Sunday as they were smashed 6-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

The wins over Southampton and Manchester United last week had eased some pressure off Ange Postecoglou’s shoulders, but the manner of Spurs’ defeat to Liverpool have now led to a lot of scrutiny.

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel slated the Greek-Australian’s ‘crazy’ tactics after the game at the weekend. His system, tactics and defensive organisation have been slammed by many pundits, media outlets and sections of the Tottenham fanbase. Despite so many injury problems, Ange Postecoglou has shown a reluctance to make adjustments and be a bit more pragmatic.

Former Spurs striker Darren Bent has now slammed Postecoglou for not having a Plan B, highlighting the difference between the club under the Australian tactician in comparison to when they were led by Jose Mourinho.

“When you’re in the Premier League, you get punished pretty much all the time. So, you’ve got the Conte-Mourinho situation, and you’ve also got the Ange scenario, and it’s two completely different ends of the spectrum. At some point, you need a happy medium,” Darren Bent said to Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT.

“Do you remember the Chelsea game? They lost two players and there were like four one down. But they kept going. I remember, we sat and did this show, and Spurs fans were going, do you know what, they’ve taken more from that performance, getting beat.

“I said to you, no chance. I said, if this is the sign of things to come, if you’ve got nine men, at some point you have to go, enough’s enough, let’s stay in shape.

“When he first came into the league last year, it was new, everyone got excited with it. But we expected it to change, and it just hasn’t. So, the Premier League is an intelligent league, people work it out very quickly. But he hasn’t got a plan B in anything.”

Spurs boss Big Ange has not changed his style of play despite having several injuries

Big Ange has time and again repeated that he is not going to alter his style of play come what may. When asked by a reporter after the game against Liverpool whether his style of play is sustainable, the 59-year-old snapped back at him and said “It’s not going to change”.

The former Celtic boss has stuck to his principles in recent weeks, despite Tottenham having some notable absentees at the back. It has left them wide open, with the approach leading to high-scoring affairs at either end of the pitch. While the injuries have been one of the mitigating factors behind Tottenham’s inconsistent results this season, Big Ange is not exempt of blame for not altering his way of playing.
