'Why would anyone' - BBC pundit makes major Wolves vs Man Utd scoreline prediction as 'tight' match has one outcome…

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton “can’t think of any compelling reason” why his prediction for Wolves vs Manchester United won’t be the eventual outcome.

Manchester United suffered another major setback in their lacklustre 2024-25 Premier League campaign with their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils once again showed vulnerabilities from set pieces and Ruben Amorim’s men were simply outclassed by Bournemouth on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim has only managed two Premier League wins from a possible six matches since his arrival at Old Trafford from Sporting CP in November.

The 39-year-old Portuguese manager has also overseen three league defeats and one draw, with Amorim facing an uphill battle to turn the tide in United’s favour.

Sutton’s reaction to Man Utd defeat vs Bournemouth

Manchester United languish in the Premier League table and Ruben Amorim’s men are now nine points adrift from the top four after 17 league matches.

The Red Devils have struggled with form and consistency in the 2024-25 season and United’s momentum has been sporadic at the best of times.

United manager Amorim faces a massive task in trying to challenge for a top-four spot and to lead the Red Devils back to Champions League football next season.

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, Chris Sutton pulled no punches towards United after their Premier League performance against Bournemouth on the weekend.

“I usually get a bit of feedback on social media when I predict a Manchester United defeat but it has been very quiet since I said they would lose to Bournemouth on Sunday,” he wrote.

“I did not think the scoreline would be 3-0 again, but the reason I went with the Cherries is because they won at Old Trafford last season and, since then, they have improved while United have gone backwards. So, was it really such a surprise?

“Moving on to this game, and the same thinking applies. Why would anyone look at Ruben Amorim’s side and back them to beat Wolves? I can’t think of any compelling reason why anything will be different here.”

Sutton’s Wolves vs Man Utd prediction

United will travel to the Molineux on Boxing Day for their Premier League clash against Wolves, with kick-off slated for 5:30pm UK time.

Wolves axed Gary O’Neil from his role as head coach this month amid the club’s poor run of form and replaced him with Vitor Pereira in the Molineux dugout.

Former Porto and Fenerbahce boss Vitor Pereira now faces the massive challenge of trying to steer 18th-place Wolves away from Premier League relegation.

Sutton has suggested that United’s clash with Wolves has a draw “written all over it” and the BBC Sport pundit has backed a 1-1 scoreline for the match.

“I feel sorry for Amorim because he arrived with such excitement around his appointment but, only a few weeks later, he must be fully aware of how big a job he faces to turn things around,” Sutton continued.

“United have wasted a fortune to build this squad and, as Amorim keeps saying, he is still trying to find his best XI.

“This is a trial period for him but he has got to deal with issues like Marcus Rashford’s future as well. He has got a lot to sort out.

“It is hard to know what Wolves will be like either, though. One of the positives from their win over Leicester in Vitor Pereira’s first game was a clean sheet but you have to remember that the Foxes are bang average.

“So, as poor as United have been, I am not going for Wolves to win this either. Instead, I think this will be a tight game and it has got draw written all over it.”
