La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly willing to offer 22-year-old struggling forward Ansu Fati in the deal to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Marcus Rashford is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the January transfer window. They are ready to offer 22-year-old struggling forward Ansu Fati as a sweetener in the deal to sign the under-fire Manchester United attacker.
Marcus Rashford, Ansu Fati and the duo’s issues
Marcus Rashford and Ansu Fati are in similar situations due to different reasons. The two academy graduates do not seem to have a long-term future at their current clubs. While a loss of form and other preposterous reasons like “lifestyle issues” have contributed to Rashford’s downfall at Manchester United, Fati has struggled with fitness woes for several years.
Rashford has turned out over 400 times thus far for Manchester United while chipping in with 138 goals and 63 assists. However, the 27-year-old Englishman might have reached the end of the line at his boyhood club, with Ruben Amorim excluding him from three successive matchday squads.
As for Fati, the Spanish international has barely featured for Barcelona this season, with fitness issues plaguing him again. However, Barcelona might have found a solution to both players’ woes, with the Blaugrana ready to offer Fati in the deal to sign Rashford from Manchester United.
What next for Rashford?
Barcelona’s interest in Marcus Rashford is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker amid the uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati. With Hansi Flick keen on utilising his troops efficiently, the under-fire Manchester United forward has emerged as a viable target.
Despite the English international’s recent struggles, he remains a game-changer. The Manchester United outcast has the potential and talent to become a long-term asset for Barcelona. However, it is unclear if Manchester United will accept Ansu Fati as a makeweight in the deal to sell Rashford to Barcelona.
The Spanish international was once among the most highly-rated attacking prospects in the world but has struggled for several seasons. So, the deal might only benefit Barcelona, considering Rashford has shown flashes of his brilliance this season, unlike Fati.
