Tottenham Hotspur are back in Premier League action on Boxing Day

The Premier League have announced that Craig Pawson will referee Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Nottingham Forest on Thursday 26th December. Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan have been appointed as the assistant referees.

Meanwhile, Dean Whitestone is on fourth official duties. Michael Salisbury is on VAR, with Akil Howson as his assistant.

Spurs head into the match on the back of their 6-3 home loss to Liverpool last time out. James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke got their goals against the Reds as they fell to a loss.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently sat down in 11th place in the table and it has been a disappointing season for the London club to date. They will be hoping to find some more consistency over the coming weeks and months as they look to rise up the league.

Speaking after their loss to Liverpool, Postecoglou said: “Obviously, a painful one for us. Credit to Liverpool, they are a good side. They were too good for us today. We were lacking a bit of energy, for sure. It’s just the situation we’re in at the moment. It was just a bridge too far for us.

“I’ve never questioned the players commitment, effort, they really care and believe in what we’re doing. That was evident again today, but you still need to be at a certain level both physically and in terms of quality to be able to do what we need to do against the top teams. Like I said, today, they were just too good for us.”

He added: “From our perspective it will be hugely beneficial moving forward, once we get through this period, because there is no doubt they won’t face as difficult a challenge as we have right now where we’re asking guys to play multiple games without any recovery, we’re asking them to play in positions they’re not usually accustomed to, we’re asking them to do things that are really challenging, but I think that will make them stronger moving forward and we’ll get the benefit of it.”

Spurs’ upcoming opponents Nottingham Forest are positioned in 4th and have been catching the eye. They are in the Champions League places along with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

They won 2-0 away at Brentford last time out and will be full of confidence. Espirito Santo said after that victory: "I think we competed really well. We work very hard every day, so the boys should be happy and proud.

"We've been working well. The beginning was hard. We were able to solve a lot of problems that we had last season. It's about this journey together. Every day is important in improving the team. We're very proud of all the things we've been able to achieve, but we've achieved nothing yet," he added. "It’s a very hard competition. Every game is so difficult and the next one is going to be very tough."
