Everton’s last five Boxing Day results ahead of Man City clash, including a six-goal thriller

The festive period is one of the best times of the year for Premier League fans.

The games come thick and fast and it feels like there’s football on nearly every day leading up to the new year.

Boxing Day, in particular, is perhaps the most historic day of the football calendar and this year, Everton make the trip to the Etihad Stadium to take on reigning champions Manchester City.

Ahead of Thursday’s clash, Everton News have decided to take a trip down memory lane and look at their last five results on the 26th of December.

It’s important to note, that the Toffees don’t always play on Boxing Day, so it dates back to 2017.

Everton’s last five Boxing Day results

Everton 1-2 Wolves – 26th December 2022

Everton suffered a dramatic late defeat in their last Boxing Day fixture as Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri netted a 95th-minute winner at Goodison Park.

Yerry Mina scored Everton’s only goal in what was one of Frank Lampard’s last games in charge before he was replaced by Sean Dyche a few weeks later.

Sheffield United 0-1 Everton – 26th December 2020

Everton picked up a close-fought three points against relegation-threatened Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Abdoulaye Doucoure was the match-winner for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who ended up finishing in 10th place that season.

Everton 1-0 Burnley – 26th December 2019

Another 1-0 win for Everton as they edged past Burnley on Merseyside in Ancelotti’s first game in charge following Marco Silva’s dismissal.

It came late, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin netting the winner with 10 minutes of normal time remaining to move up to 13th place in the Premier League.

Burnley 1-5 Everton – 26th December 2018

Everton thumped Burnley 5-1 under Silva’s stewardship and it was the defender Mina who earned the Man of the Match award.

The former Barcelona centre-back opened the scoring after two minutes and looked every inch of the £27m that was spent on him.

West Brom 0-0 Everton – 26th December 2017

Everton failed to find the back of the net against struggling West Bromwich Albion but extended their unbeaten run to six games following Sam Allarydce’s appointment.

Allardyce would ultimately guide The Toffees to a respectable eighth-place finish, though, fans weren’t best pleased with his style of play.
