Leicester City’s top five games of 2024, Ranked

The end of the year is nearly here and it’s been a busy one for Leicester City.

At the start of 2024, Leicester were sitting at the top of the Championship with plenty of work to do before sealing a return to the Premier League.

Since then, the Foxes have had: one title win, three managers, several new signings and some excellent results.

Not bad going for 12 months.

Although there have been some tough times, the good has largely outweighed it all at the King Power Stadium.

Throughout that time, Leicester have produced some excellent performances and so, with that, here are the five best games of 2024, ranked from five to one.

5 – Southampton 2-3 Leicester City, 19 October 2024

Who doesn’t love a last minute winner, right? What turned out to be Steve Cooper’s final win as Leicester manager could well turn out to be one of the Foxes’ most important results at the end of the season.

After finding themselves 2-0 down within the space of half an hour against a winless Saints side, it looked as if the East Midlanders were going drop three huge points against a relegation rival.

Instead, Leicester showed that Foxes never quit and three goals without reply, including a 98th minute winner from super-sub Jordan Ayew, meant they had stole all three points on the south coast.

4 – AFC Bournemouth 0-1 Leicester City, 27 February 2024

On most occasions in recent years, a game against Bournemouth had often seen Leicester pitted as the favourites.

However, with Leicester a Championship side in this FA Cup encounter, it was largely expected that their run would come to an end in the Fifth Round.

Enzo Maresca made plenty of changes to the side and they took the Premier League side to extra-time, where an individual piece of brilliance from Abdul Fatawu was the difference between the two teams in a dogged performance that saw the Foxes book their place in the quarter-finals.

3 – Stoke City 0-5 Leicester City, 3 February 2024

A five-star performance from the Foxes on this day was the moment everyone knew that, barring a major mishap, the Premier League was calling.

Braces from Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy set themselves well on their way while Kasey McAteer also got in the act on a dominant display from start to finish.

Leicester fans and players can look back on this game as one where they showed their ruthless streak and showcased their gulf in quality in comparison to the rest of the league.

The game that sealed the Championship title was always going to be included.

Monday night, under the lights, in front of over 5,000 travelling supporters was a party from minute one.

Vardy in particular loved the night, scoring two of the three, including blasting home from a yard out to double the Foxes’ advantage.

Leicester became Championship champions for a record-breaking eighth time and capped off an excellent season.

1 – Leicester City 5-0 Southampton, 23 April 2024

There were many impressive performances throughout 2024, but the outright winner had to be the demolition job against Southampton.

A hat-trick from Fatawu was the icing on the cake on a night where they swept aside a side tipped to challenge them all the way in a promotion race.

Wilfred Ndidi and Vardy were also on the scoresheet, but this was the young Ghanian’s breakout game that caught everyone’s attention and made for a brilliant night in the East Midlands.
