Three deals Wolves could complete in the January transfer window, including £10m star - opinion

The wish most Wolves supporters are granting this Christmas is Premier League survival and the January transfer window will play a vital role.

Wolves fans have been dragged to hell and back this season after watching their side struggle at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Supporters have watched some comical defending throughout and it’s clear Wolves need to sign at least two defenders in January, otherwise, they can wave goodbye to survival.

A trio of Craig Dawson, Toti Gomes and Santi Bueno just haven’t been good enough and new manager Vitor Pereira will have targets in mind to bolster his back line.

So, with that said, here are three deals Wolves could complete in the January transfer window.

Ben Godfrey

Molineux News exclusively revealed last week that Wolves want to sign a British defender next month.

Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise to see Wolves get linked with Atalanta’s Ben Godfrey, the 26-year-old centre-back who departed Everton for £10 million last summer.

Godfrey would have been pleased to have joined a Champions League club but the versatile Englishman has rarely featured, playing a total of 93 minutes across all competitions.

As a result, the defensive titan has been linked with a Premier League switch and it’s something Rio Ferdinand would be right behind.

Ferdinand once dubbed Godfrey ‘outstanding’, mainly because of his exceptional recovery pace and ability to deal with fast attackers.

Indeed, the signing of Godfrey is one deal Wolves could complete in January.

Kevin Danso

Pereira isn’t looking to sign just one but two defenders in the transfer window, and Kevin Danso could be another who finally signs for the Old Gold.

Danso was heavily linked to Wolves in 2023 but he preferred to stay at Ligue 1 side Lens as they’d just qualified for Champions League football.

The 6 ft 5 Austrian powerhouse was then linked once more this summer, although a deal never materialised and the 26-year-old remained in France.

Now, Pereira could make Danso his first January signing as Wolves have been linked once more and Lens sporting director Diego Lopez needs to balance the books.

Kevin Danso’s Lens per 90 statistics (past year) Statistic

Interceptions 1.18

Blocks 1.92

Clearances 4.43

Aerials won 2.71

Progressive passes 4.16

Miguel Almiron

Aside from mainly targeting defenders, Pereira could dip into the loan market and strengthen his attack.

Wolves have been linked with a loan move for Miguel Almiron, the Newcastle winger who has fallen down the pecking order under Eddie Howe.

The 30-year-old has played just 119 minutes in the Premier League this term, losing his place in the starting lineup to Jacob Murphy.

Almiron has never been the most prolific player, producing just 42 goal involvements in 218 appearances for the Magpies.

However, if Wolves sell Pablo Sarabia to Sevilla then perhaps the Paraguayan could be an option, although he wouldn’t be the most popular choice.
