Marcus Rashford has broken his social media silence for the first time since revealing he wants to leave Manchester United. The 27 year old forward, who has been with the club for two decades, was not included in the squad for their last three matches.
Despite reports suggesting that the decision to sell him was made by the Old Trafford hierarchy, new manager Ruben Amorim insists it was his call. Rashford's last post was from a visit to his old primary school, Button Lane, where he distributed Christmas presents.
It was during this visit that he announced his intention to leave his boyhood club after nine seasons in the first team. Now, Rashford has shared a photo of himself with family and loved ones ahead of Christmas Day, captioning it "Family time. Happy Christmas everyone."
This comes after Amorim questioned whether it was truly Rashford's decision to publicly express his desire to leave United.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Red Devils' boss said: "Of course it is a hard situation. But I understand that this kind of player, they have a lot of people around them making some choices that are sometimes not the first idea from the player. So I understand, I can separate things. I am always here for helping Marcus as another player. And they have to do what they have to do ", reports the Mirror.
The head coach commented on the interview situation with Marcus Rashford, stating, "I say they chose to do that interview, because it's not just Marcus, and I understand that. As a coach I am just focussed on the performance, the way he trains. And the rest, I think it is better for me and the club to deal with that when the time comes."
He then refocused on Rashford's on-pitch contributions, "At the moment I am just focussed on improving Marcus. We need a lot in this moment the talented guys like Marcus and I forget for now the interview. I just see what I see on the pitch."
In team news, Rashford might be missing from the lineup against Wolves on Boxing Day, as United, who find themselves in 13th place, seek to reverse their season's fortunes after a particularly difficult first half. Following a dire 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, Amorim's squad missed out on securing consecutive Premier League victories for the first time this year.
The winter transfer window is set to open on January 1.
