Yes, you did read that headline correctly, Ivan Juric, Southampton’s newly appointed manager, has pledged to bring a high-intensity, “death metal” style of football to the [Premier League](https://www.claretandhugh.info/premier-league-bio/).
Whilst I was initially unsure what the link was with music and intensity I was just pleased Juric hadn’t promised to defeat **West Ham** with Christmas songs.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp used to play Heavy Metal football on Merseyside so one can only assume that death meatal is a level up on intensity.
Juric replaced Russell Martin and observed from the stands as Southampton played out a goalless draw with and impressive Fulham team. His debut as manager comes tomorrow as [Julen Lopetegui](https://www.claretandhugh.info/julen-lopetegui/) takes his Irons team to the south coast for a game he dare not lose.
Speaking to the press Juric cryptically outlined his music/football philosophy: “Work hard, press hard, play good, be intense.” Meanwhile, Irons gaffer Lopetegui, faces mounting scrutiny despite a three-match unbeaten run, including a 1-1 draw with Brighton.
West Ham and Loppy will have to keep a close on on Tyler Dibling, the promising winger who has already impressed his new boss. Juric is determined to nurture Dibling’s talents as the club adapts to his musical methods.
Whether that means Dibbling will be fully trained in Metallica football for the Boxing Day clash is uncertain but the new Saints boss is certainly talking a good game.
