Manchester United’s interest in Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez is reportedly stronger than that of bitter rivals Liverpool.
United are eager to secure the services of a left-wing-back, either in January or during the summer transfer window. Luke Shaw remains sidelined with an injury while Tyrell Malacia is still gradually building up his fitness after an extremely lengthy period on the sidelines.
On many occasions under Ruben Amorim, Diogo Dalot has been deployed as a left-wing-back but the Portugal international is hardly a natural on that part of the pitch.
Some of the players United have been linked to as a solution in this problematic position include Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), Alvaro Fernandez Carreras (Benfica, Miguel Guttierez (Girona) and of course, Kerkez.
United got a taste of Kerkez’s capabilities last weekend, as the Cherries beat them 3-0 at Old Trafford. Kerkez produced an exceptional performance, doing well to limit the dangerous Amad Diallo.
The Hungarian has made a tremendous name for himself in the Premier League with his consistently impressive displays, alerting a number of clubs to his potential availability. Liverpool and Real Madrid are also thought to be admirers of his.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were set to do battle with Liverpool for Kerkez’s signature.
Now, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has given a huge update on Kerkez’s situation, indicating that United’s pursuit of him may be slightly more advanced than Liverpool’s.
Romano said on the Men in Blazers podcast, “For Milos Kerkez, I think keep an eye on Manchester United because Man United are also looking at that position.”
“Man United, I’m told, are more concrete than Liverpool in this monitoring activity for Milos Kerkez.”
A day ago, Kerkez caused a stir on social media after he shared a photo featuring a United home kit with Casemiro on the back.
The 21-year-old defender signed a five-year contract at Bournemouth when he joined them in 2023. Andoni Iraola’s side are therefore in a very strong negotiating position if teams like United come calling.
