Inigo Martinez has enjoyed a resurgent season at FC Barcelona under Hansi Flick. After a difficult debut campaign, riddled by injuries, the Basque defender has become a key player this term.
Having accumulated over 2,100 minutes across 24 matches in the first half of the season, the 33-year-old veteran is one of Flick’s most trusted lieutenants.

However, his contract situation at Barcelona has not gone unnoticed, and as per Fichajes, Manchester United have emerged as a potential suitor for Martinez, should his renewal not go through at the Catalan club.
The importance of the former Athletic Club captain in the Barcelona squad has been evident this season. His defensive solidity, leadership at the back, and ability to play out from the defence have made him an indispensable figure for Flick.
However, the 33-year-old Spaniard’s contract expires in the summer of 2025, putting Manchester United on alert.

It must be noted that there is an option to extend Martinez’s deal by another year if he plays a certain number of matches this term, which he is on track to achieve. But it does not seem to have dissuaded the Red Devils.
Indeed, Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation of the Spanish defender and see Martinez as a solution to their defensive issues.
The prospect of acquiring the 33-year-old centre-back on a free transfer is especially appealing to the Premier League club, who are ready to offer a tempting contract to secure his arrival in the summer.
While Barcelona work to finalise the renewal of one of their key players, the interest from United threatens to complicate negotiations.
The coming months will be crucial in determining the future of the defender, whose continued presence is a priority for the Blaugrana project.
