Seasons greetings to Leicester City fans all around the world.
It’s Christmas Day and that means it’s only one more sleep until the big one…Boxing Day football.
The Foxes face Liverpool away from home at Anfield in what is expected to be a tough game for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men.
This season it’s all about Premier League survival and the Foxes are well and truly in a relegation battle this time around.
Christmas time is usually the halfway point of the season and, with that, a clear indicator of where teams may finish after 38 games.
Over the years the Foxes have regularly had something to play for so, with that, let’s take a look at where the East Midlanders have been in the table on Christmas Day in the five most recent seasons.

Following relegation from the top flight, the expectation was that Leicester would be cruising at the top of the Championship and that’s exactly what they were doing.

Enzo Maresca’s side were sitting pretty at the top, five points clear of Ipswich Town.
Despite a few bumps along the way, they didn’t actually drop off the top throughout the season and ended the campaign as champions with 99 points in total.

2022/23 – 13th
This season will ultimately be remembered for the Foxes getting relegated but at Christmas time, it looked as if they had turned a corner.
It took eight games for Brendan Rodgers’ side to record their first league win of the season and away victories against Wolves and Everton had put them in a great position.
13th was by no means brilliant but that was about as good as it got. A terrible run of form in the second half of the season resulted in Leicester losing their Premier League status seven years on from winning the league.
2021/22 – 9th
Fresh from winning the FA Cup for the first time in Leicester’s history, the squad was also competing with European duties in the shape of the Europa League.
Although they were consistently inconsistent, the Foxes were still in a top half position on Christmas Day, occupying ninth spot.
Battling a run to the Conference League semi-finals was never going to be easy and Leicester ended up finishing eighth that campaign and missed out on European football altogether.

2020/21 – 2nd
One of the best periods of the Rodgers era, this Leicester side truly looked like it was capable of anything.
Left, right and centre, the Foxes swept away teams with their extravagant brand of football, sparking some conversations about a second title win for a second year in a row.
The 9-0 hammering of Southampton set the tone as the Foxes battled well and found themselves convincingly inside the top four and in a title race with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
A drastic downturn in form in 2021 however ruined the hard work, leading to Leicester just missing out on a Champions League spot for a second season in a row.
They did go and win the FA Cup though, so not all is bad.

Leicester’s first full season under Rodgers was truly remarkable as the Foxes became everybody’s second favourite team.
What would go on to happen sadly was a theme that would occur throughout the next five years as an unprecedented level of bad form would culminate in the Foxes missing out on a Champions League spot on the final day of the season.
