West Ham United scouted Brais Mendez in each of Real Sociedad’s last three La Liga games, according to CaughtOffside.

The outlet reported via their website on 25 December that the attacker is open to moving to the Premier League – an ambition that is likely to be welcomed at the London Stadium.

Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the 27-year-old’s situation at Sociedad, although the Irons could be in the front seat if they are willing to trigger his £49.5million release clause.

Sociedad, though, would rather keep the four-time Spain international.

Julen Lopetegui receive Brais Mendez boost as West Ham transfer news emerges

As a left-footed, Mendez has spent the majority of his time at Sociedad this season on the right flank, but is primarily known as an attacking midfielder.

The Spaniard’s versatility makes him an interesting target for Julen Lopetegui, who has played the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek in different positions.

With Bowen leading the line for the East London outfit in Michail Antonio’s absence, Mendez could slot in at right wing.

He could also take Soucek’s position as an advanced midfielder in Lopetegui’s 4-1-4-1 setup.

The former Celta Vigo ace, who has two goals and an assist in 15 league games this term, is also a regular set-piece taker for Sociedad.

It is, therefore, easy to see why West Ham are impressed by Mendez’s abilities ahead of the January transfer window.

However, the 49.5m price tag may prove to be excessive for Lopetegui’s side, who are already up to their FFP maximum [Hammers.News].

In other West Ham news, the Irons’ demand to sell this Lopetegui regular wanted by two Premier League clubs has been revealed.
