Manchester United have joined the race to sign Chelsea target. The questioned star is main player at his current club who are unwilling to sell him. But, the player’s desire may initiate the away move next year.
The star in question here is 27 year old Gregor Kobel. Kobel is the main keeper for Borussia Dortmund. He has been their first choice keeper since joining them in 2021. Last season, he helped Dortmund to reach the Champions League final.
Dortmund are unwilling to part ways with Kobel just yet. They have him tied with a contract running until 2028. But, Dortmund are known for letting their players leave if a suitable offer comes their way.
In addition, Kobel has expressed a desire of competing for major titles regularly. As of now, Dortmund are 6th in Bundesliga and may miss their spot in Champions League next year. This may result in Kobel moving away from them.
Chelsea have been linked heavily with Kobel in the past weeks. The Blues are doing well but their defence and keeping is still creating minor problems. Robert Sanchez who is first choice keeper is very likely to move away next year.
Manchester United join Chelsea in the race to sign Kobel
According to TEAMtalk, United are planning to sign Kobel next year. They want the 27 year old to rival Andre Onana for the starting place. Lastly, the report adds that Ruben Amorim likes Kobel and has recommended him to United board.
This may come as a blow for Chelsea as it means more competition. But, they still have the upper hand in the race due to two major points. First is they will provide Kobel with Champions League football which the Red Devils are very likely to miss next season. Second point is he can get in Chelsea lineup directly whereas he may have to sit on the bench at United.
