How Arsenal could line-up after the January transfer window with three new additions

The January transfer window is just around the corner, and Arsenal have work to do.

The Gunners are lagging behind in the title race at the moment, and if they want to win the league, they’ll have to kick on in 2025.

New signings can often be the spark a team needs to hit new heights in the new year, and Arsenal could certainly do with that added extra dynamic to help them hit top gear.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of potential signings in January in a number of different positions, and if they go through with these moves, their team could look very different.

With that in mind, we’re taking a look at how Arsenal could line-up in 2025 after the January transfer window.

Arsenal’s post-January starting XI

Arsenal have plenty of holes in their squad right now, but those areas could be address in January.

If Arsenal get all of their necessary business done next month, their team could look something like this.

There are three new additions to this side, and they’re very exciting to say the least.

Illan Meslier comes in between the sticks, and while the Leeds goalkeeper isn’t likely to be Arsenal’s starting option ahead of David Raya, he’ll still have a key part to play.

Meslier has been linked to Arsenal recently while Arsenal have concerns about Neto after his recent showings in training.

The back four remains exactly the same as Arsenal have spent plenty of money on plenty of defenders in recent years, so their depth there is adequate.

The midfield also remains the same. Thomas Partey’s contract is up next summer though, so Arsenal may look to replace Partey at the end of the season – Martin Zubimendi has been linked to Arsenal in that position.

In the attack is where things get really exciting.

Arsenal are very keen on Nico Williams, so he starts down the left, while Bukayo Saka continues down the right.

Alexander Isak starts up front. Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of Isak, and according to Dean Jones, Isak may be available in January.

Arsenal’s recent January signings

Last year’s January transfer window was something of a non-event, but Arsenal aren’t afraid to be active in the winter window when they need to be.

Indeed, Arsenal have made some major signings in January windows gone by.

Year January signings

2024 None

2023 Jakub Kiwior, Jorginho, Leandro Trossard

2022 None

2021 Matt Ryan, Martin Odegaard

2020 Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares

2019 Denis Suarez, Pablo Mari

2018 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Kostas Mavropanos

Some of Arsenal’s best signings in recent history have been in January. Martin Odegaard is now the club captain after initially arriving on loan in January 2021, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the best player at the club for a long time.

Whether or not Arsenal have the financial power and the ambition to make any signings in January remains to be seen, but if Arsenal do manage to put the above XI together, they could give Liverpool a run for their money at the top of the table.
