Newcastle United ‘not open’ to letting player leave – Club officials looking for ‘credible alternatives’ for January

There has been no shortage of speculation about Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali in the past few days.

The talk of an exit was played down by his agent Giuseppe Riso but this was followed by talk that Juventus see the Italian as a potential target.

It now seems as if the midfielder will likely stay at St James Park, as Calciomercato have looked at the possibility of Tonali potentially returning to AC Milan some time in the future.

The report mentions that while the 23-year-old has never been forgotten by the Milan faithfuls, the club are only looking at a player in the mould of the Italy star and not the Azzurri man himself.

That is because Newcastle United are ‘not open’ to a sale at any point in the near future. This has led Milan club chiefs Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Geoffrey Moncada to look at ‘credible alternatives’ to Tonali.

Genoa’s Morten Frendup, Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka and Hellas Verona’s Reda Belahayne are mentioned as potential options for the Rossoneri.

The report goes on to state that while bringing Tonali back would be a ‘dream’ for many Milan fans, it is now more difficult than ever to achieve that.
