Chelsea’s calendar year in 2024 has been another turbulent one, so what’s in store for everyone at Stamford Bridge in 2025?
Mauricio Pochettino was the manager of Chelsea at the turn of the year, but they’ll go into the New Year with Enzo Maresca in charge as the current head coach. The Italian boss is doing a magnificent job since his appointment in the summer, too.
The Blues have been a mixed bag on the pitch under these owners. However, there’s signs recently that things are settling and everything is clicking into place.
The Chelsea Chronicle has made three bold predictions about Chelsea to happen in 2025:

Chelsea will win two trophies
It’s been a mini spell at Chelsea in recent years without winning silverware. In fact, the club’s most recent trophy success was in the FIFA Club World Cup (2022), preceded by the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup (both 2021).
However, the first bold prediction is that the Blues will lift two trophies in 2025.
Maresca’s side will be competing across various competitions in the New Year, and they should be confident of winning a couple of them.
In terms of the UEFA Conference League tournament, the Blues are strong favourites to win it. Axel Disasi insists Chelsea are driven to win the Conference League to complete the set of European club trophies.

If Chelsea can get over the line in Europe’s third tier competition, they’ll need one of the Premier League, FA Cup or Club World Cup to complete a double for 2025.
Enzo Fernandez will become permanent captain
At this moment in time, Reece James still holds the position as Chelsea’s club captain. Eventually, the Blues may need to make the very upsetting decision to strip him of the captaincy because the facts are he barely plays due to injury.
James has played four games across all competitions so far this season. On top of that, the right-back only made 11 appearances throughout the whole of the 2023/24 campaign.
It could make sense to remove the weight of the captaincy off James’ shoulders to allow him to focus on his fitness.
As a result, Enzo Fernandez could make sense as a natural replacement to become the permanent skipper.
The 23-year-old central midfielder is now playing his best football in Maresca’s system. Also, he’s worn the captain’s armband on numerous occasions already this season.
John Obi Mikel wouldn’t mind Levi Colwill as Chelsea’s captain, but Maresca has put faith in Fernandez to lead the side more recently.
Christopher Nkunku leaves the club
Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku may be scoring goals for fun this season across various cup competitions, but the fact is he’s not getting much of a look-in during the Premier League.
Therefore, another bold prediction is that the 27-year-old attacker may ask to leave next summer and begrudgingly be sold by the club.
Nkunku hasn’t given up on his Chelsea career and wants to continue fighting for his place. At the very least, he’ll surely finish the campaign as he tries to break back into the best Blues XI.
If Nkunku continues to play second fiddle to Nicolas Jackson in attack, it would be no surprise to see him ask for a transfer move next summer. The truth is a player of his calibre is too good to be sitting on the bench most weekends, especially during what should be the prime years of his career.
