Ashley Young has been left red-faced with his Everton prediction made during the summer

It has been a first half of the season to forget for Everton with the Toffees finding themselves battle at the wrong end of the table once again.

Sean Dyche may have had some big hopes for the 2024/25 campaign after Everton invested in a number of players over the summer window.

However, that has not translated into results with Dyche coming under significant pressure at Everton following their dismal start to the season.

With the January transfer window now a matter of days away, there could be some signficant changes made to the squad.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton remains uncertain with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.

The Englishman has struggled in front of goal this season and it has left Ashley Young red-faced with his pre-season prediction.

Ashley Young predicted Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be top scorer

Speaking to the media ahead of the start of the campaign, Young predicted Calvert-Lewin to be the Premier League’s top scorer.

Now, around halfway through the campaign, the full-back’s prediction is looking worse as each week goes by.

It has been a seriously underwhelming 2024/25 season for Calvert-Lewin so far with the striker really struggling up top for the Toffees.

Pat Nevin spotted Calvert-Lewin’s frustrations in an Everton shirt earlier in the season with the striker struggling up front by himself.

He’s scored just two goals all season.

However, the 27-year-old has remained in the starting XI despite his lack of goals with Dyche holding private talks over Calvert-Lewin’s form.

Calvert-Lewin could leave Everton in January

Adding to Young’s prediction, the striker’s future at Goodison Park remains uncertain with Juventus interested in Calvert-Lewin ahead of the January window.

As things stand, January will mark the final opportunity for Everton to cash in on their striker with his contract coming to an end in the summer.

Some at Everton are confident of Calvert-Lewin signing a new contract but the interest from abroad is going to prove an interesting factor in his decision making.

With Armando Broja returning to fitness, the striker is certainly going to have to show more on the pitch if he is going to be worth the Toffees investing in a new deal.
