Amorim protege "pleased" with prospect of reuniting with former boss with contract talks…

Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes is reportedly intrigued by the prospect of joining Manchester United in the near future.

United are on the search for a left-sided full-back who is capable of slotting into Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and one of the options believed to be under consideration is Mendes.

The Portugal international’s future in the French capital is uncertain, owing to the fact that he has two years remaining on his current contract. Mendes’ deal is set to expire in the summer of 2026.

Negotiations with PSG over fresh terms have yet to bear any fruit and this has alerted a number of clubs, including United, to his availability.

According to CaughtOffside, United established contact with Mendes’ agent to explore the possibility of getting a deal over the line.

“Indeed, CaughtOffside sources understand that United remain interested in Paris Saint-Germain left-back, Nuno Mendes, and furthermore, after speaking to Mendes’ entourage to find out the player’s thoughts, it’s believed that he’s said that he’s pleased with Manchester United’s interest.”

“PSG want to extend the 22-year-old Portuguese international’s contract until 2026, but Mendes is not planning to sign a new deal.”

CaughtOffside note that contract talks between Mendes’ camp and the reigning Ligue 1 champions are “expected to fail.”

If this happens, PSG are prepared to let him depart for €70m in the summer transfer window.

Mendes has featured in 98 competitive matches during his time with PSG. The player has managed five goals and 13 assists in that period.

This season alone, the 22-year-old has made 15 appearances, including starts in all six of PSG’s Champions League fixtures.

Ruben Amorim is well aware of Mendes’ ability to operate as a left wing-back in his preferred system, having previously coached the 22-year-old for a season at Sporting Lisbon.

Other left-backs mentioned to be on United’s radar include Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), Alvaro Fernandez (Benfica), Miguel Gutierrez (Girona) and Rayan Ait-Nouri (Wolves).
