A look at the players who are likely to stay and leave Chelsea during the January transfer window.
Chelsea are in good shape heading towards the new year, still in the thick of the Premier League title race after an impressive start to the season. It’s a start few expected to soon into Enzo Maresca’s reign, and whether they are title quality or not, the Blues will want to take advantage of their strong start to secure a Champions League spot at the very least.
The winter transfer window is unlikely to bring many new signings for Chelsea, who have spent plenty over recent years, but there could still be a number of departures. Here we round up those at risk of being let go, or those who have been linked with an exit, to see which players are likely to leave.
Benoit Badiashile - Stay
Badiashile has been linked with an exit after struggling for game time earlier in the season, but there is next to no chance of Chelsea allowing to leave in January.
Mykhailo Mudryk - Stay
Mudryk faces allegations of doping, a fight that is likely to last a few weeks, and if found guilty, he could be suspended for some time. Whether he is found guilty or not, a January departure is not on the cards for the Ukrainian.
Carney Chukwuemeka - Leave
Chukwuemeka has struggled for opportunities this season, being resorted to Conference League outings. He is likely to move on, whether that be through a loan or permanent deal.
Ben Chilwell - Leave
Injuries haven’t helped, but Chilwell has only made one appearance all season. He is not part of Maresca’s plans and will surely get a move in January.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - Leave
A more complicated situation, Dewsbury-Hall only joined the club in the summer, but he does not look to be of elite quality, and it has shown up. He has played well in some Conference League fixtures, but it looks as though Chelsea could move him on already. A loan move is more likely, but it seems the former Leicester man could move on this winter.
Cesare Casadei - Leave
Casadei was convinced to stay in the summer despite having options to leave. But the midfielder has struggled to get opportunities, and a loan move looks likely in January, with plenty of talk of interest from Italy.
Omari Kellyman - Leave
This one is a real toss up. Kellyman has struggled with hamstring injuries all season, and that could put any loan suitors off a deal. Maresca will want to see more of the former Villa man, but he will still likely find first team appearances hard to come by. Kellyman’s best option is to move on in the form of a loan deal, but that’s if he can find one.
Marc Guiu - Stay
Guiu is still only 18 but he is doing everything in his power to win more regular game time. He has made only one league appearance so far, but he has scored six goals in as many games in the Conference League. That is taking an opportunity, and Maresca will surely be impressed. Guiu will likely be kept around, even if he is playing more of a back-up role. You never know when injury might strike, and if Chelsea lose Nicolas Jackson, Guiu has shown he can score goals if given the service.
