Liverpool transfer news as 'work begins' on $75m deal and new Rayan Cherki claim emerges

Liverpool is in a very promising position in the Premier League and the Champions League but in some ways, that only makes it even more tempting to bring in a fresh face and add a further boost when things are going well.

And as much as Arne Slot will be delighted with how things have gone so far, there are one or two areas that could do with some extra depth. If something was to happen with Ryan Gravenberch, for instance, that would be a major concern.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with claims that scouts have been dispatched to France to look up at a possible target for 2025.

Rayan Cherki (Lyon)

Liverpool-linked Rayan Cherki has been scouted by the Reds this season, Fabrizio Romano has reported. The Lyon playmaker is someone whose profile is admired — though a move in the winter window is unlikely with no real need for Slot to add another player in that position. Lyon needs to cash in on some players to fix its desperate financial situation.

£60-£125 Liverpool FC

Cherki is in good form this season with five goals and seven assists so far. But he is not expected to remain with the Ligue 1 side for too long. Compared to Eden Hazard, he is being tipped to have a big future.

Liverpool.com says: Cherki is talented, clearly, but he wouldn't immediately have a place in the team at the moment at Anfield. Harvey Elliott has struggled for minutes and playing him more often as a number 10 should be the priority.

Joao Pedro (Brighton)

Liverpool has been laying the groundwork for a summer deal to sign Brighton and Brazil striker Joao Pedro, according to Football Insider. Expected to cost north of $75m (£60m/€72m), the forward is said to be open to making the move to a bigger club.

Liverpool.com says: With question marks over Darwin Nunez's future in as much as he doesn't look like a great fit at the moment, Pedro makes loads of sense. He could be the next Roberto Firmino and is showing loads of promising signs. The 22-year-old is ready to hit the next level and his numbers are already imrpessive.
