Manchester United have been dealt a significant injury setback, with midfielder Mason Mount ruled out of their FA Cup third-round tie due to injury. The 25-year-old has endured a challenging spell at Old Trafford, with recurring fitness issues limiting his contributions since his arrival from Chelsea in July 2023.

Mount, who returned to the Premier League lineup earlier this month against Arsenal for his first start since August, was forced off just 14 minutes into United’s dramatic Manchester derby win over City on Sunday. The visibly distraught midfielder later took to Instagram to share his frustration.

“Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now,” Mount wrote. “You could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.”

Speaking after United’s Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham, manager Ruben Amorim confirmed the severity of Mount’s injury. “I don’t know the exact date, but it is going to be long,” Amorim said, adding to concerns over the player’s fitness.

Mount’s time at United has been plagued by injuries, limiting him to just one full 90-minute appearance in 18 months. He missed five months of his debut season with thigh and calf issues and has already been sidelined for two months this season due to hamstring and head injuries.

Despite the setbacks, Mount vowed to persevere. “United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee is that I will never give up or lose faith,” he said. “I’ll continue to give everything, get through this tough period, and won’t stop until that’s achieved.”

Arsenal are also contending with injury concerns ahead of the FA Cup clash. Star forward Bukayo Saka is expected to miss the game with a hamstring injury sustained against Crystal Palace, while defenders Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain sidelined. On-loan forward Raheem Sterling is also out but could return to contention soon.
