Virgil van Dijk has just said what all Liverpool supporters are thinking. The Reds skipper has been in superb form throughout an incredible first half of the campaign for Arne Slot's side.

They head into tonight's clash with Leicester City at Anfield (8pm kick-off), which will be shown live on Amazon Prime Video, sitting top of the Premier League, top of the Champions League group stage, and into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, which is the trophy they won in the last season of Jurgen Klopp's reign.

Slot has led Liverpool to 21 wins from 25 matches in all competitions since taking over from the legendary German and such is the seamless way the Dutchman has settled into life on Merseyside, there is a growing belief that his debut campaign in charge will end in silverware.

Central to that has been colossus Van Dijk who has underlined why many people believe he is the world's best centre-back.

But despite that status, in less than seven days' time, the 33-year-old will officially be able to talk to foreign clubs about a free transfer move next summer.

That's because Van Dijk, along with vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and leading goalscorer Mohamed Salah, are set to enter the final six months of their Reds contracts.

It is understood that the club has now offered the key trio fresh terms but, as the end of 2024 nears, negotiations between the players' representatives and sporting director Richard Hughes continue.

And ahead of the visit of Leicester, Van Dijk has described his relationship with Liverpool as a love affair and outlined how long he believes he can continue to play at the level of football.

Speaking in an interview with Amazon Prime, the Netherlands captain said: β€œI love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me and it is a very good foundation to be successful.

β€œIn my opinion I can play for another three, four years at least at the highest level. We will see what the future brings.”
