Report: Friedkin Group now want to steal Everton mainstay as part of revolution at Roma

Everton have endured a turbulent 2024/25 campaign so far but there are more promising times ahead for the Blues.

The Friedkin Group have been handed the keys to Goodison Park where they have already been treated to an impressive draw against Chelsea.

However, there is a lot that needs to be improved around Everton if the club are to pull away from the relegation fight and back to where the club hopes to be.

Despite not even being at the club for a week, The Friedkin Group are expected to spend in January as they look to offer Sean Dyche some upgrades to his squad.

But there could also be some movement going the other way with Everton holding on to a number of players who may not be offering the side much.

The Friedkins eyeing Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure for Roma

There are players like Beto who are receiving interest from Italy ahead of the January transfer window.

This is a market which the Friedkins know extremely well having owned AS Roma for a number of years now.

And according to Corriere dello Sport, Abdoulaye Doucoure is one of the players who could potentially make the switch between clubs.

The midfielder is set to see his contract run out during the summer, which has the Toffees at risk of losing him for free in a matter of months time.

However, a January deal with the Italian outfit could benefit the Blues with PSR proving an issue for Everton once again.

There are several players set to run their contracts out at Goodison Park this season, and a January departure is the club’s last opportunity to cash in on those players.

Everton would need a direct replacement for Doucoure

Although Doucoure may not have exactly lifted up any trees this season for the Toffees, he has still played regularly in the starting XI.

Doucoure was praised for his display against Chelsea on the weekend as Dyche’s side have shown signs of turning around their poor start to the season.

Dyche has been praised for transforming Doucoure in a more advanced role for the Toffees.

But the club’s PSR situation could well lead to Everton being forced into greenlighting some January exits.
