FC Barcelona are certain that not every player of theirs will continue with the club beyond this summer. With a rather sizeable salary budget allocated towards several players, the Catalan club is aware of the problems that have been caused because of it. However, there are certain procedures to be followed if Barcelona wish to do something about it.
This season, for instance, it has been quite clear to the Catalan club that not every player has had the kind of impact that the coach or team would have wanted out of them. Some players have little to no prominence, and it is difficult to see them gaining it before the end of the season.
Such players, especially for financial reasons, can be offloaded without hurting the team’s sporting aspirations. For that reason, according to SPORT, Barcelona have already informed Deco that they want him to generate €80 million or more in the summer transfer window through player sales.
This revenue, in turn, would then allow Barcelona to restructure and improve their current squad. Certain positions are simply too overcrowded while others do not have the necessary depth that the team’s coaching staff seems to think is adequate enough.
For instance, there will likely be a sale in the summer that involves a defender or two. With too many defenders currently in the squad, there is simply no need for that many back-up options in Hansi Flick’s team. The likes of Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen, for instance, could be two options that Barcelona end up offloading.
Similarly, there are a lot of options in the midfield and the Catalan club believes that some may not be needed. Frenkie de Jong’s contractual dilemma and Pablo Torre’s lack of prominence this season could be two such factors that open the door for them to leave the club in the summer.
Ultimately, it will all depend on the sporting project that the Barcelona board and the coaches agree upon. Even some potential signings, such as that of a certain Bundesliga defender, are currently in the works and their confirmation could also pave the way for some additional departures if things remain uncertain on that end.
However, as of right now, Barcelona is not interested in parting ways with any player in January. The club already has a plan in mind for the upcoming transfer windows and due to their issues with player registrations, they are not open to the idea of costing Flick any additional depth if they cannot bring in new players during the winter transfer window.
