West Ham United supporters were looking forward to the 2024-25 season after a promising summer transfer window.
However, things haven’t turned out the way they expected, as the Hammers are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table after winning just five of their 17 matches.
West Ham have seen some improvement in recent weeks, as they registered five points from their previous three games against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion.
But their performances in these matches weren’t entirely convincing, with fans still not convinced Julen Lopetegui is the right man for the job.
With the January transfer window approaching, West Ham will look to add a few fresh faces to the squad as they aim to make a comeback in the second-half of the season.
However, the Londoners will reportedly have to sell before they can buy any new players next month.
Irons open to offers for Maxwell Cornet
According to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas, the Hammers are set to prematurely recall Maxwel Cornet from his loan at Southampton.
Lopetegui’s side are willing to listen to offers for the 28-year-old as they look to raise cash for new recruits.
The ‘dynamic’ forward joined the Saints on a season-long loan but the move hasn’t worked out for him.
He has played only four matches this campaign, totalling 187 minutes.
Cornet was expected to be a big success at the Irons when he joined the club in 2022 for £17.5 million.
However, the Ivory Coast international has failed to meet expectations in East London.
Injuries have been one of his biggest issues, but even in matches he has played, he has failed to make an impact.
Cornet has scored 62 goals in his club career so far, but for West Ham, he has got on the scoresheet only once, despite making 37 appearances.
