Sean Dyche could have a surprise new role under the Friedkin Group umbrella after managing Everton, club historian Paul McParlan has suggested.

The Everton expert, in quotes relayed by the Liverpool ECHO (26 December) believes that if a new contract offer doesn’t materialise with the Merseyside outfit this season, the 53-year-old might be offered the chance to coach Roma due to the defensive prowess his Toffees side has shown at times this term.

Dyche’s long-term future beyond this season remains uncertain but McParlan mooted a surprise move for him within the Friedkin group.

“Sean Dyche has surely impressed his new paymasters with his ability to organise a defence,” he wrote.

“And who knows, if a new contract offer from Everton does not materialise this season, The Friedkin Group may have other plans for him elsewhere in their footballing portfolio. Don’t be surprised to see him at AS Roma next season!”

Sean Dyche set for role away from Everton?

It’s not hard to see that the 2024/25 season has been a bit all over the place for Everton and their fans this season.

While there have been times such as their recent draws against Chelsea and Arsenal where things have started to look up for the Merseyside outfit, there have been others when fans have started to turn on their players and manager due to the poor performances they’ve put in.

One of the main talking points to have emerged from Goodison Park this term is where the immediate future of Dyche lies.

His contract is set to expire at the end of the season and at the moment, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll receive an extension.

It feels unlikely that he will be replaced before the end of the term as he’s made a name for himself as something of a survival specialist due to the amount of time he spent keeping Burnley in the top flight.

Of course, nothing is yet set in stone but if he does make a move to Roma, it’ll no doubt be the biggest surprise of the season, it’s hard to imagine this one would actually happen if we’re honest.
