Everton have been “outstanding” over the last couple of months thanks to the performances their defensive line have put in, Alex McMonnies has said.
The Toffees currently sit 15th in the Premier League but are coming off the back of two draws against Manchester City and Arsenal which, when looking back at some of their results from earlier in the season, is fairly impressive.
The return of Jarrad Branthwaite has no doubt been a major reason behind their recent defensive stability and with the form Manchester City find themselves in at the moment, they will have designs on earning a win against the Cityzens in their Boxing Day clash.
“Worries will inevitably still persist over the lack of potency up top, but the Toffees’ defensive record over the last couple of months has been nothing short of outstanding,” the Liverpool ECHO journalist wrote.
“The Blues now look a lot more like the team of last season, which were able to navigate choppy waters with relative ease and acquire enough points to finish in 12th place in the Premier League table, thanks in no small part to their strong defensive record”.

Sean Dyche has helped make Everton defensively sound
One of the main reasons why Dyche has been deemed a survival specialist is due to the amount of time he kept Burnley in the top flight.
Before his move to Everton, the 53-year-old’s tactical choices may have bored fans but they were always fairly solid in defence, even if he didn’t have the best players available to him.
It feels like something similar has happened at Everton and while the formidable partnership of James Tarkowski and Branthwaite is the main reason behind their recent defensive stability, without Dyche’s coaching, the latter of the two might not have realised his potential.

At the moment, they’re not directly involved in the Premier League’s relegation battle as they have a four-point cushion between themselves and 18th-placed Wolves.
And, it feels like as long as Dyche can keep his team on track and solid at the back, they should have more than enough quality within their ranks to survive once again.
That is if the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja can finally step up and prove their worth.
